There is no looking back for Cardinals first round draft pick and 19th overall, Nolan Gorman. The recent high school graduate out of Sandra Day O’Connor High School in Phoenix, Arizona signed a guaranteed contract with St. Louis on Monday worth $3,231,700.
Gorman is a left-handed hitter who also plays third base. He got a tour of Busch Stadium, met the Cardinals Front Office, and took some batting practice. His first professional assignment will be playing for the the Johnson City, Tennessee Cardinals. It’s a rookie level affiliate in the Appalachian League. It’s the same league where Carson Kelly and Alex Reyes spent some time before coming to St. Louis. Gorman’s signing with the Cardinals means his college career at the University of Arizona is over before it actually began.
A Cardinals news release says Gorman stands 6-foot-1, and is 210 lbs. His high school career stats are a batting average of .419 (116-for-277) with 32 home runs, 118 RBI and 115 runs scored. He also won a State Championship during his senior year at Sandra Day O’Connor High School. Gorman hit 10 home runs in 32 games in 2018. He is the highest selection for the Cardinals since 2013 when Cardinals also picked at 19. That time, the chose pitcher Marco Gonzales out of Gonzaga University. Gonzales is now in the Seattle Mariners organization.
