Molina Named as All-Star Replacement for Buster Posey

Yadier Molina is officially a 2018 NL All-Star. Catcher Buster Posey had been named to the team but Monday night, it was announced that Posey will have to miss the game because of inflammation to his right hip.

Molina is now a 9-time All-Star. He’s batting .278 with 13 home runs and 38 RBI. He missed 30 days after taking a foul ball off his groin against the Chicago Cubs back in May.  Molina also leads the NL among catchers for home runs this season.

Molina will join starter Willson Contreras and J.T. Realmuto for this years NL All-Star team.

The other Cardinals player who will be in Washington, D.C. for the All-Star Game is pitcher, Miles Mikolas. Mikolas was selected by Major League Baseball to represent the Cardinals.

Third Baseman Matt Carpenter still has a chance to get to the All-Star Game. He is among others up for a fan vote until Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm.
